Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organisation:

Supports the 2D and 3D garment manufacturing process for innovative garment prototypes in collaboration with the Creation Centre teams (Design, Marketing, Product Operations) in all relevant processes end-to-end from ideation to cutting and tailoring to manufacturing. Creates virtual and physical samples (prototypes) taking into account feasibility for production.

Key Responsibilities:

• Development and grading of innovative and fit-critical model cuts in cooperation with x-functional partners.
• Creation of pattern layouts taking into account internal cutting rules and, if necessary, review according to cost-relevant aspects.
• Sewing of sample patterns and mock-ups according to specifications from design, pattern and development teams.
• Advise and train the x-functional teams in the process of pattern making and sewing.
• Close cooperation and communication with the respective interfaces in all matters of sewing, processing and finishing (printing, embroidery, etc.).
• Testing new garment constructions for quality, production capability in collaboration with the product test, quality team and x-functional teams.
• Support direct line managers in the production of training materials, manuals and budget plans.
• Incorporate 3D technologies where applicable and relevant to the development process.
• Mentor and coach other team members.
• Coordinate projects and workshops with team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of pattern making and pattern grading with the ability to provide effective and cost efficient pattern solutions.
• Understanding of garment construction, material construction and properties in relation to fit.
• Understanding of the relationship between pattern, material and manufacturing.
• Is familiar with the basics of cutting.
• Is able to interpret and evaluate designs at model level in terms of pattern execution/technique.
• Team player/communicator with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects with varying deadlines
• Ability to work with diverse groups, motivate or guide others and demonstrated problem solving and innovation skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Fluency in English (written and spoken)
• Advanced knowledge of 3D applications (V-Stitcher, Clo3D)
• Advanced knowledge of Gerber or similar 2D CAD applications
• Advanced IT skills (Illustrator, MS Office)

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

• Training as a tailor or industrial garment maker ("journeyman" training) or 3-4 years of sewing experience.
• Completed technical school/fashion school training as a garment technician, garment engineer, pattern, design and production modeler/director, master tailor or studies in pattern construction and grading.
• Ideally 1-2 years of relevant work experience in the apparel industry in a comparable role.

PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANISATION

Support Innovation design, development and project management apparel with creation of garments on highest quality level for handover to all BU ́s, which could be concept garments, prototypes and production pieces for key athletes and consumers. Proactively identify and solve problems which could occur in process of product creation and/or could lead to quality issue in production.

Deliver proposals for solving those issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently create garment prototypes, testing garments/equipment for research, mock-ups, samples in general and MTM products for Innovation design, Future research and project development.
• Be the capable contact person for product development, design and x-functional teams in terms of material based quality assurance and material analysis to optimize construction.
• Support and consult project managers and developers apparel adidas Innovation on topics like quality standards and workmanship solutions.
• Understanding of requirements for manufacturing processes in regards to physical material properties (especially in the area of bonding technology) and ability to differentiate between material types and quality.
• Identify and communicate and solve technical issues in regards to product/prototype creation (i.e. in regards to pattern, problems depending on material choice...) and work proactively towards solving those issues with a hands-on mentality.
• Be able to create and adjust basic pattern physically and digitally and to create new silhouettes through the draping technique and bring them into a digital format.
• Oversee the organization of fit sessions and conduct fittings to adjust pattern.
• Ability to handle all equipment that is needed for creation of prototypes/products which is not part of a standard operation process (i.e. sublimation printing, laser cutting) and provide file formats to enable those processes.
• Be instrumental in identifying new and upcoming manufacturing processes within the prototype creation process which leads to investment in new machinery, new tools or tuning and adapting of existing equipment and tools.
• Communicate with both external and internal partners as needed (ie. Machine vendors/repair; inline apparel and footwear sample shops, fabric and trim supplier).
